Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Launches Nationwide Campaign to Return Unclaimed Funds
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has launched a nationwide campaign to return unclaimed funds lying dormant across various financial institutions. The total amount of such unclaimed money across banks, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), insurance companies, mutual funds, provident fund accounts, and other institutions stands at ₹1.84 lakh crore. The campaign aims to ensure that these funds are returned to their rightful owners.
The campaign will run for three months and is also designed to raise public awareness about such unclaimed assets.
Addressing the initiative, Sitharaman stated, “The unclaimed money lying in various financial institutions is not government property; it belongs to individuals and families. For decades, people have been raising their voices for the need to return these funds from banks, the RBI, or the Investor Education and Protection Fund (IEPF). This money rightfully belongs to them
